Popular acoustic yacht rock band Endless Summer, performed a corporate event on Spectacle Island, that featured New England’s top renowned chef and restauranteur Barbara Lynch. Barbara has recently partnered with the Boston Harbor Islands in helping re-design the concessions on most of the outer harbor islands. We had a chance to talk with guitarist Ken Freeman about the party.
This specific event sticks out in my mind because after we were finished performing the guests moved down to a the beach and bonfire. Our band leader Corin immediately grabbed an acoustic guitar and headed down to the fire with them for a sing along of fun party songs. I’ve never seen a happier group of people hustling onto a late night ferry heading home. There were many highlights for the guests but that “bonfire sing along” was everyone’s favorite part of the night! Performing on an island brings challenges that we don’t regularly encounter. The first big challenge is getting to the event! Most artists have a tried and true method of loading in for event and what equipment that they need keep in the car “just in case”. When you need to take a Ferry to the event it adds the challenge of needing to bring everything with you in one trip. The second challenge is related to the first because once you get “on island” you still need to walk and cart all of your gear to the performance space. The third challenge we face has to do with getting home. All vendors are at the mercy of the ferry schedule and when you are working a very elegant event with a celebrity chef there are a lot of staff and equipment!
